Ram Creek offers two distinct styles of mule deer hunts that follow the natural movement of bucks throughout the fall. Early in the season, mule deer gather in the high country—alpine basins, open faces, subalpine meadows, and rocky ridges. These hunts involve long glassing sessions, comfortable September weather, and the chance to turn up mature bucks feeding and bedding in the high country.
As October progresses, harsher weather pushes deer lower. This opens up opportunities to target mature timber bucks that have been living deep in the forest all fall. Later-season hunts focus on migration trails, timber edges, and productive valley systems where big bucks begin to move.
A four-point minimum is in effect for mule deer bucks. While 4WD trucks, ATVs, and horses help cover ground, every hunt will involve hiking—sometimes long, sometimes steep, depending on where the deer are holding.
Mule deer hunts are excellent for hunters who enjoy a mix of glassing, hiking, and adaptable strategies. Early-season hunts require good optics, patience, and the ability to move into shooting position across alpine terrain. Late-season hunts require stealth, slow still-hunting, and the willingness to cover country in search of an old buck moving during cold snaps. If you appreciate a hunt where timing, weather, and strategy all play major roles, Ram Creek mule deer hunts offer a rewarding challenge with great trophy potential.
Choose from high-country September hunts with long-range glassing, or late-season timber hunts targeting mature migrating bucks.
Whitetail deer in our area are true mountain whitetails—lower density, but heavy-bodied and impressive when the rut kicks in. Whitetails are most commonly added to:
Late-season mule deer hunts
November lynx hunts
As the November rut begins, big whitetail bucks become more visible and roam more frequently. This hunt is not marketed as a standalone trip but makes a fantastic addition for those already in the field.
